A ten-day trip to Thailand requires good planning. To capture the country’s rich variety without feeling rushed, focus on three distinct regions: the buzzing capital, the mountain culture of the north, and the southern tropical islands.
Days 1–2: The Kinetic Energy of Bangkok
Start your trip in Bangkok. Base yourself near the Chao Phraya River for easy navigation. On your first full day, visit the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, then cross the river to explore Wat Arun. In the late afternoon, take a private long-tail boat through the historic Thonburi canals before taking a nice, casual dinner at a local night market.
Days 3–5: Culture and Nature in Chiang Mai
Fly north to Chiang Mai, the country’s cultural heart. Spend your first afternoon exploring the Old Town’s ancient temples, including Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chedi Luang. On day four, visit an ethical elephant sanctuary to observe rescued animals in a natural environment, and end the evening at a night market: the famous Sunday Walking Street if your visit falls on a Sunday, or the Night Bazaar on any other day. Conclude your northern leg on day five by visiting the mountain temple of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep for sweeping valley views.
Days 6–8: Tropical Relaxation in Krabi
Fly south to Krabi and take a boat to Railay Beach, a stunning peninsula framed by dramatic limestone cliffs. Dedicate day seven to island-hopping through the Andaman Sea, visiting the Phi Phi Islands and Maya Bay early to beat the crowds (Maya Bay usually closes for a few months each year so the ecosystem can recover, so check before you go). Keep day eight open for kayaking, hiking to secret lagoons, or simply unwinding on the sand.
Days 9–10: Grand Finale in Bangkok
Fly back to Bangkok for your final evening. Celebrate your journey with a sunset drink at a high-rise rooftop bar or a final street food tour. On day ten, pack your bags and head to Suvarnabhumi Airport for your return flight!
